Malanggou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Jiaolai Basin. The Malanggou Formation was erected by Li Qingping and Zhao Fengjiang in 1992. The section for the designation is at the Malangcun village of the Nanlu township of Anqiu city of Shandong.
Lithology and Thickness
The Malanggou Formation is represented by purple gray and dark purple andesitic conglomerate, andesitic sediment lithic and crystal tuff, sediment volcanic breccia tuff with coarse and fine-grained sandstone. It is 239.43 m thick. Lower formation in the Wangshi Gr.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by andesitic lithic tuff is distinguished from the underlying Qingshan Fm. It is a conformable contact.
Upper contact
Its top marked by dark purple andesitic conglomerate is separated from gray green mudstone of the overlying Tianjialou Fm. It is in conformable contact.
Regional extent
The formation mainly occurs within the Yimu fault, and in the Weifang-Tancheng small area. The lithology of the formation is similar to that of the stratotype section and the only difference is that the volcanic partings are seldom seen. In the Guanzhuang and Mazhuang areas of the Zhucheng City of east Shandong, the base of the formation is built up by tuffaceous conglomerate while the upper part by purple red siltstone and fine sandstone. The Madongshan Fm is 150 m thick and lies disconformably on the Proterozoic Fenzishan Gr and contacts by fault under the Tianjialou Fm. In the Guanshuai area of Wulian, it is characterized by gravel-bearing medium- coarse-grained sandstone frequently alternated with fine sandstone, with a thickness of more than 500 m. It contacts by fault with the underlying Qingshan Fm (Qingshan Gr) and conformably with the overlying Tianjialou Fm.
